26 Mar Pimalai Resort & Spa, Koh Lanta in Krabi

The word ‘Pimalai’ is derived from the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit and appropriately means ‘A little Patch of Heaven’.

Pimalai Resort & Spa’s story begins 40 years ago when the late and much respected Anurat Tiyaphorn fell in love with this patch of land on Koh Lanta. An avid sailor, it was initially the bay that attracted him, yet he was also struck by the untouched stretch of tropical rainforest next to the beach.

He could not get enough of Koh Lanta, and while spending his holidays swimming there, would gaze back, absorbing the beauty of the setting and island, completely captivated by its natural beauty.

Despite being a property developer, initially Anurat had no plans to build a hotel; he just wanted his own personal sailing and water sports spot. However he soon realised that if he were to keep the property for his exclusive use only, he would not be contributing anything to the country or the surrounding community, and work on the resort began.

Today Pimalai Resort & Spa is one of the areas most exclusive five star resorts and has embraced a contemporary Thai architectural style that blends into the surrounds, and is complemented by all the modern amenities and personal touches. With the elevated position of many of the rooms and

restaurants allowing an excellent view of Kan Tiang bay.

There are four restaurants at Pimalai, with three specialising in different kinds of cuisines, as well as relaxing bars to enjoy a drink while appreciating the views. Spice n’ Rice Thai Restaurant, The Se

ven Seas Restaurant and Bar, with Banyan Tree Poolside Café offering a more westernised menu and the Raktalay Beach Bar and Restaurant casual dining.

Tucked up in the trees on the hillside, are the 64 Deluxe rooms with garden or partial sea view, there are four Bay front Deluxe rooms with sea views that are located at the beach, 7 Pavilion Suites with separate living room and an outdoor shower, 7 Beach Villas with separate living room and private pools and 39 Pool Villa with a separate living room, kitchenette, sala and private pool. Meaning that whatever your preference or budget, you can be accommodated here.

Pimalai’s signature Hillside Ocean View Pool Villas triumphs their accommodation and allows guests totruly experience nature at their doorsteps. Located 60 to 80 meters above sea level, they enjoy astounding views of the sea and have their own private sundeck and infinity-edge pool, making it the perfect choice for honeymooners.

As far as activities are concerned, there are two large pools, an infinity pool with Jacuzzi at the pavilion, as well as the large pool with 180-degree views of the bay up at the villa estate. Other activities on offer include Bicycle Tours, Cooking Classes, Thai Martial Arts , Towel Folding Lessons, Cocktail making lessons and movies in the library.

There is 900m of beach for your enjoyment, with loungers and umbrellas as well as bar service, a wide selection of books ad newspapers on offer for your enjoyment, and if you just want to escape for some alone time, it will be respected.

A variety of different kinds of non-motorized water equipment with our compliments: Kayaks, Windsurf, Paddle Boards, Sailing Boats, Body Boards, Beach Football, Beach Volleyball and Beach Petanque Motorised water sports are not allowed in this area.

Other activities include a trip out snorkelling at Koh Rok, Scuba diving, PADI courses. The fitness centre has high quality equipment, yoga studio and a tennis court. There are golf carts available around the clock to transport you back and forth from your accommodation to restaurants and activities, although many opt to walk between the two properties.

All that activity may be good for the body, especially on a long stay where indulging in the good life is irresistible, which is why a visit to the Pimalai Spa where they offer massages, body wraps, treatments and beauty care, must not be overlooked.

Pimalai is centered around the idea that peace with nature leads to peace on the estate. This in mind every detail from its location, to the construction of the resort facilities, was planned and executed with the goal of complementing, not competing with the original environment. Their sustainale and eco-practices are admirable and you’ll be enjoying some of the fruit and veg grown on their estate.

A little patch of heaven indeed with lush greenery and endless ocean views.
